Request Information

Make a Request

You can access information based on request type. If you are seeking information for use in legal proceedings, please review our policy on the release of information for legal proceedings.

Informal requests are used to access information that we have previously published. This includes brochures, annual reports, forms, and lists of licensed contractors. To make an informal request, contact us. There is no charge for informal requests.

FOI requests are used to access information that isn’t routinely made available to the public. Because we are subject to the  Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) , we must ensure that any requests for information that may contain third-party or personal information are reviewed to ensure compliance with FIPPA prior to disclosure. Examples include permits, certificates of inspection, compliance orders, complaints or violations, licensing, and qualifications.

We will respond to your request within 30 days. In our response we’ll detail the next steps and, if applicable, the fees involved in processing your request. If your request is complex and needs longer than 30 days to process, we’ll send you a completion estimate with our initial response.

How to make an FOI request:

  1. Print and complete the top part of the Request for Information Form 1003 (use additional sheets if required).
  2. Email us the completed form or mail to:

Any errors or omissions in the directory is unintentional.

The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act defines a Personal Information Directory as a collection of personal information that is organized or retrievable by the name of an individual or by an identifying number, symbol or another assigned particular to an individual.

The purpose of the directory is to document the management of personal information held by Technical Safety BC and to assist the public in identifying the location of personal information about them that’s held by the organization.

The Personal Information Directory is available upon request, please email foi@technicalsafetybc.ca to obtain access.

To confirm the existence of permits or inspections generated between 2013 and present-day, search for permits using our online tool. For permits or inspections prior to 2013, please contact us directly. If copies of the document are required, a formal FOI must be submitted.

To avoid delays, requests should be submitted as soon as a property is listed or is expected to be listed. Requests are processed in the order in which they are received.

Note: We do not issue electrical and gas permits in all jurisdictions.
