Licensing and Certification

We issue licences to contractor businesses and owners or operators of companies who install, operate, and maintain regulated equipment.

We issue certificates of qualification to individuals working on regulated equipment. Together, licences and certifications provide the public with assurances that certain standards of knowledge and proficiency are being maintained around regulated work.

In 2023, we made improvements to our online services for clients so they can apply for certification or book an exam with a much shorter wait time. Learn more about this project and what it means for clients going forward.

Licenses and Certificates in 2023

There were 894 new licenses issued in 2023, a decrease of 11% compared to licenses issued in 2022. However, renewals of licences continued steadily and exceeded our projections by year end.

In 2023, 3056 certificates were issued, a 5% increase from 2022. Renewal of certificates remained consistent.
