Licences

A licensed contractor is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Safety Standards Act, all relevant regulations, and all applicable safety orders and directives. It’s important that licensed contractors familiarize themselves with their roles and responsibilities under the Safety Standards Act and associated regulation(s). Contractors and companies working with regulated systems and equipment must be licensed by us.

Responsibilities of a Licenced Contractor

The responsibilities of a licensed contractor include but are not limited to:

1. Obtain a licence for every technology in which you perform regulated work.
2. Maintain your licence(s) by renewing your licence before it expires.
3. Know the content of your work and only perform the scope of regulated work you are licensed to perform.
4. Maintain awareness, understanding and compliance with any terms and conditions added to your licence.
5. Hire qualified workers and ensure they have the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform regulated work.
6. Ensure all regulated equipment is approved.
7. Report all hazards and incidents to Technical Safety BC.
8. Fulfill any applicable licence reporting requirements.
9. Cooperate with safety officers and safety managers and comply with all requirements issued by a safety officer or safety manager.
10. Correct all non-compliances on or before the due date(s) set by a safety officer.
