Certain Epic Brand Residential Condensing Boilers Recalled Due to CO Risk
Recall
Health Canada has issued a consumer product recall for certain Epic brand residential condensing boilers, combi boilers and packaged systems.
Product
This recall involves certain Epic brand residential condensing boilers, combi boilers, and packaged systems sold by Lochinvar.
Issue
The boiler’s flue collector can crack if exposed to a high impact event in the burner chamber, which can allow the boiler to emit carbon monoxide, posing a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
As of October, 2023, the company has received two reports of broken flue collectors in Canada, and no reports of injuries. In the United States, the company has received 8 reports of broken flue collectors and no reports of injuries.
What to Do
Consumers should immediately contact the installer or a qualified service technician to schedule a free repair. The repair will consist of installing a steel plate, which will be affixed to the base of the flue collector to act as a reinforcement.
Consumers in BC can find a qualified service technician by contacting AquaTech Sales and Marketing, Inc. at 1-866-594-0767, ext. 127.
For more information, consumers can contact Lochinvar by telephone at 1-833-232-9706 from 8am to 8pm ET Monday through Friday or visit the company’s recall website to check for the recalled boilers’ serial number at www.waterheaterrecall.com.
