Incident overview
A fire in the custodial room of a portable school building occurred when a lighting fixture failed. Damage was caused to the portable’s flooring, wall board, floor mounted custodial sink, lighting fixture, and ceiling. The fire started when part of a ceiling-mounted fluorescent lighting fixture overheated and caught fire. This may have occurred due to improper installation of the fluorescent lighting tube within the lampholder sockets. The fire department was alerted and extinguished the fire.
