Topic:
The Elevating Devices Safety Regulation has been amended as of September 4, 2008 to adopt the CAN/CSA Z98-07 Passenger Ropeway & Passenger Conveyor Standard for use in British Columbia. The regulation also adopts the inclusion of Annexes A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, and K of the CAN/CSA Z98-07 as mandatory.
Passenger ropeways or passenger conveyors which are designed and built after December 31, 2008 shall meet the requirements of all sections of the new CAN/CSA Z98-07. Existing installations are expected to meet the operation, maintenance and testing requirements of the new Z98-07 standard as per the requirements of clause 1.4 of the aforementioned standard.
If you are planning to relocate or modify a passenger ropeway or passenger conveyor after December 31, 2008 you will need to contact the British Columbia Safety Authority to determine which sections of the adopted Z98-07 would apply to that altered installation, in addition to those sections referenced above.
A summary of some of the notable changes from the previous edition are listed in the preface of the new standard. Please ensure that your operation and maintenance personnel are aware of the changes to the operation, maintenance and testing requirements and that these changes are reflected in your company standard operating procedures.
