Reference Number:
IB-GA 2024-03
In accordance with the Safety Standards Act and s.31 of the Gas Safety Regulation, a gas appliance must display a mark or label indicating that it is certified or approved to be offered for sale, sold, installed, or operated in BC.
Gas appliances not certified to, or under the scope of a recognized Canadian certification standard must be field approved to the CSA B149.3 code for the field approval of fuel burning appliances and equipment by an inspection body accredited by the Standards Council of Canada.
Details
The primary method for compliance with this requirement is through approval by an inspection body. A Technical Safety BC accepted inspection label verifies that an appliance is compliant to the codes noted under their associated Standards Council of Canada’s - accreditation program overview document. This can include references to the CSA B149.1, B149.2 and B149.3 series of codes.
