Gas Certification

Overview

A Gas Appliance Service Technician certificate of qualification allows you to service and repair the following gas systems:

  • Gas appliances installed for residential use
  • Light commercial appliances up to an input of 82 kW

A Gas Appliance Service Technician certificate is not a prerequisite to a Class B Gas Fitter certificate. If you would like to get your Class B Gas Fitter certificate, you must complete a recognized training program for Class B Gas Fitters. 

To obtain a Gas Appliance Service Technician certificate, you will need to meet certain eligibility requirements and pass an exam.

To apply for this exam, you must have successfully completed a recognized course in gas appliance service training. You must submit your course completion document along with your exam application.

This exam is 3 hours long, and you must achieve a minimum grade of 70% to pass. Exam details, including areas of study, can be viewed in the exam syllabus.
